B i o g r a p h y

     Dr. Daniel Chia-Te Liu is a current adjunct professor in piano at Ottawa University. Dr. Liu won the first place of the Young Artist concerto competition and performed Totentanz by F. Liszt with Hay’s Symphony in 2013. Dr. Liu received his doctoral degree with honors. Besides performing, Dr. Liu was also a successful teacher. Many of his students received first place and highest honors in the competitions

     A native of Taiwan, Dr. Liu started playing the piano since he was five-years-old. Having come from a musical family, Daniel studied both the piano and violin, and was accepted to the musically gifted class by Keelong Senior High School in Taipei County with highest honor at age fifteen. During his first year of Senior High School year, he was accepted by the School of Music at Australian National University (ANU). Daniel studied with Professor John Luxton, who was the dean of the school of music and the director of the keyboard studies at ANU. During his studies in Australia, Daniel performed in master classes given by renown artists such as Geoffrey Tozzar, Michael Keran Harvey, Geoffrey Lancuster, John O’Conner and Dr. Larry Sitsky.
     Daniel has been awarded honors and prizes from the Chamber Music Competition at ANU, Margaret Smile Accompaniment Competition, Australian Eisteddfod Piano Competition and International Piano Competition in Taiwan. He has been an active performer, performing solo recitals annually in Australia, as well as chamber music recitals.  He has given concerts in Tigronoung Arts Centre, Wesley Music Center, and City Church in Australia. He has performed for Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Ambassador of Taiwan. He was invited by Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office in Australia to perform for the National Day of Taiwan. In addition, he performed for Yuan T. Lee, the president of Academia Sinica, and on the Farewell Concert for Taiwanese Ambassador Yang. He also performed Danse Macabre by Liszt on the final in "Concerto Marathon", held by Keyboard Institute at Australian National University.
     After completing his Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance, Daniel continued to earn his Master of Music in Piano Performance from ANU and completed both degrees in five years by December 2005. Daniel decided to pursue his musical studies in the United States, and pursue a second Masters degree. He studied with Amy I-Ling Cheng. Daniel Performed in master classes for Peter Miyamoto, Cecile Licad and Peter Frankl in Oklahoma City. During the time at KU, Dr. Liu actively participated in many performances. He gave one solo recital and one chamber music recital in the Spring and Fall in 2009; and two solo recitals in New Taipei City, Taiwan during the summer. Also, he was invited to perform with Helianthus, the new music ensemble, and gave premier of a chamber music piece for nine players by Dr. Bryan Kip Haaheim in the year of 2010. Daniel gave four recitals at Taiwan Normal University, National Taiwan University of Arts, Tamkang University and a lecture recital at Da-Yeh University during the summer, 2010. In 2011, Daniel was invited again by Da-Yeh University to give a lecture recital and also gave solo recitals at Taipei Grace Church in June and at New Taipei City Arts Center in July. In the summer of 2012, Dr. Liu attended and won the second place in the competition in the new music festival, Cortona Sessions in Italy and He won the first place in the Hays Symphony Young Artist Competition in 2013. And Dr. Liu was selected to perform at the Helzberg Hall, Kauffman Center in March 2013. Daniel also won the first place of Concerto Division of American Protege and the first place of Duet Division and the second place of Solo Division of Bradshaw&Brono International Piano Competition in 2014.
